The Soundtrack To The Life Of Js.One
I see myself as a madd scientist creating the ultimate art. I'm a musician (recording), artist (drawing/painting/photo, ect). In other words I want to be able to express any asthetic concepts I have inside me, no matter the meduim.
My love for music is wide...especially for an 19 year old. I listen to basically anything that sounds good. As a musician myself I prefer musicians who write their own music or play thier own instruments. I listen to everything from Billie Holiday to The Beatles (who I love, I'll ramble on about and make constant references to them) to Slum Village.. underground and true school Hip Hop (the Wild Style era, cicra 82'). I also listen to Bossa Nova people like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Lisa Ono, ect. I really like singer songwriters, especially from the sixties/seventies such as Carole King and Stephen Bishop and Janis Ian, ect to people of today such as Brendan Benson and Nora Jones. I like alot of classic 60's rock ( I think I either should have been born in the early 50's or am the reincarnation of someone from then) people like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Zepplin, Janis Joplin, and some Grateful Dead tickle my fancy. On the punk side I like The Sex Pistols and Ramones as old school figures, and contemporaries such as The Vines, Strokes, The Hives ect. Jazz greats such as John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Others include Bob Marley, The White Stripes, John Lennon (you should be used to this by now), Tenacious D,Freddie Foxx (Bumpy Knuckles), Mos Def, Non-Phixion, Nirvana, the Woodstock 69' artists (too many to Name), Masta Ace, Lauryn Hill, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, Jeru, Heather B, Gilberto Gil, Gil Scott-Heron, Duke Ellington, Gangstarr, Fiona Apple, Alanis, Donovan, Coldplay, Craig Mack, Camp Lo, Big Pun (R.I.P), Bebel Gilberto, Guster, Rooney, Psychedelic Breakfast..the list goes on and on. |

Js.One's Tools, Gear, and Equiptment
A History Of Js.One Musical Equptment:
Back in the day when I all began at the tender age of 11 I began to record my own music..1995/96 is when I recorded "The Jza" and "Jshort Is Dead". "The Jza" being my first album. I recorded that on my "TALKBOY" TAPE RECORDER (from Home Alone 2). What I used to do back then was I used my new PORTABLE CD PLAYER to play instrumentals..and held the headphones next to the tape recorder's mic while I recited the lyrics. I actualy remember duplicating "The Jza" which is funny because I had no intentions on distributing it to people, and I had to make every copy one by one. There was also a bit of KEYBOARD experimentation in "Jshort Is Dead".
A couple years later..maybe 97' or 98' I got my KAREOKEE MACHINE. I never used it to sing kareokee... I used it as a studio tool...slowing down instrumentals so that on playback it would play a little faster and learning the basics of overdubbing. I'm not quite sure how I discovered it, but when I did everything I recorded was overdubbed..which when you don't have a recorder that records the tracks individualy can reduce the sound quality. However this machine taught me my first real lessons on production along with my first TURNTABLE and my MIXER. They weren't expensive, just the most basic ones so that I had something to start off on. I learned a few DJ technuiques but my main focus was recording. I remember in 7th grade I got a radio mix tape from my friend (she could sing and I tried to put together a group/band with her and my best friend) and I noticed she was singing acapella on the B-Side. That was a big innovative part of my beginnings because I took the acapella and added an instrumental and overdubbed my voice onto it. I also began to experiment with using my computer to digitaly mix my music.
Summer of 99' marked my first release: a single/bootleg entitled "All Roads Lead To The Bronx". I recorded the whole thing on my KAREOKEE MACHINE. 1999 was a big year as people talked about "The new millenium" and "Y2K" I wanted to produce a really good album, or the best I could at that moment in time.. after I released a few single/bootlegs I got ready for my first released album "The Fight For The Mic". When I started production I got some new gear that I use till this day: my SAMPLER and 4 TRACK RECORDER. When I got that new equpitment I put it to use experimenting with the newly found sounds on the album... I recorded all my songs I released prior to that on my 4 TRACK as to upgrade the sound quality. This is also about the time I got my second TURNTABLE.
Every release since then has been recorded on my 4 TRACK... I intitaly still used my KAREOKEE MACHIENE to add reverbs and change the tempo, but it eventauly stopped working. As time progressed I began to use the COMPUTER more to digitaly edit songs..."Emcee's Combat" and "41 Shots" (both in 200) come to mind, as well as the intro's to my albums "The Fight For The Mic" and "Js Style" (2000 also).
Later on around spring 2002 I began to incorporate my MINI DISC PLAYER as a recorder from the 4 TRACK which made the mastering process all the more cleaner.
Around fall 2002 I started to want to play guitar (I had some knowledge of piano too) so I got a FENDER STRAT in December then a CARLO ROBELI ACOUSTIC in January. Now I'm starting to play all my own instruments (KEYBOARD effects, DRUM MACHIENE, ect). "Feelin' It" was the first song I composed on the guitar. I've written a handful more but I'm yet to get a chance to record them till the end of March.

Reviews from websites:
1. "I listened to a thirty second clip of this artists acoustic guitar song, and i thought it was very seducing in it's simplicity. Js. One's finger picking goodness was very inspiring and straight forward. Though there were no lyrics or any vocals at all for this song, i found it to be relaxing and smooth." Rating: *** (I'm guessing it's out of a possible 4..and also I'm ashamed to admitt that I forgot which song was reviewed.)
